His Reason for Accordance
Dick had done some hard things before. He’d fought the Joker, took on Deathstroke, dealt with the deaths of friends and family…he’d watched the murder of his parents and became Batman when they had all thought Bruce dead. Yes, he’d gone through some hard things and he’d always prevailed, but this…this was the hardest thing he’d ever had to do.
Acting like nothing had happened between him and Jason was a struggle. Especially when Jason was sleeping just a few doors down from him in the manor. After not seeing him for months, all Dick wanted to do was rush into the other bird’s room, pull him into his arms, and never let go. He wanted to kiss him; to fall on his knees and beg for forgiveness. He’d do anything, anything at all, if it meant righting his wrongs but Jason didn’t seem interested in reconciliation.
It’d taken Dick all night to get the courage to even utter one word to his former lover. He’d been looking fo

Screech: 10 A Puzzeling Case
It’d taken years for the nightmares to decrease and even longer for Larkin to get use to them haunting her throughout the day. Sometimes it was easier to shake them off then other times. Around holidays, birthdays, and his death date, it was particularly hard. That’s why she hated winter.
Most people hated the coldest months because of petty things. Ice, snow, the rise in heating bills…she hated winter because Christmas was her father’s favorite holiday and because a week before it was when he took his last breath.
She liked to pretend that she’d been too young to remember the details of his death, or that her child mind had repressed them to save her own sanity. She supposed the second was probably somewhat true, for over the years her memory of that night had dulled. She was sure that at one time she’d known the face of her father’s murderer. Now all she knew was a jumble of feelings and flashes of faded images.
One thing Larkin knew for sure

His Reason to Distance
He could have flown first class. If he had really wanted to. Coach was fine though. More than fine, actually. Even during his tenure as Robin he hadn’t been comfortable with the perks of first class. He supposed it came from spending his early years on the streets. It’d taken him months to get use to the big, plush bed Bruce had given him at the manor and even longer to get use to not having to worry where his next meal was coming from. He didn’t think he’d ever get use to first class. He always felt like an imposture when sitting in the cushy seats and sipping on a flute of bubbly. Which was why he’d selected a coach ticket when purchasing a flight to Gotham.
A mother with dark lines under her eyes sat behind him. Her squirming child sat in the seat next to her. The child was cranky and the mother had stopped scolding and started begging an hour ago. Still the child squirmed and kneed the guy seated b

His Reason to Answer
It was cold in Star City. Not nearly as cold as it’d be in Gotham, though. Gotham had harsh winters. There was never just a skiff of snow on the ground in Gotham.  There was always at least five inches worth of the disgustingly wet flakes. They’d get everywhere. They’d stick to everything. Normally it was impossible for a Gotham resident to step foot outside in winter without getting snow all over them.
Snow was something Jason didn’t miss. He could do without having to wear an overly heavy coat to fend off Jack Frost’s breath. Yet, the cold without the snow felt off.
There was snow in the forecast, of course. Star City was due for a few inches. Not much by Gotham standards. Yet, the forecast did nothing to help Jason’s mood.
He’d spent all day working at the mechanic sho

Rookie Mistakes 11: Not So Lucky Charms
Title: Not So Lucky Charms
Time Frame: December 2014

I’ve seen some pretty amazing rookie mistakes in my time. I’ve seen a kid wander around the kitchen for an hour, because he was too proud to ask for help, looking for a bucket someone sent him to fetch. I’ve seen a girl break down in tears because she thought she broke the dish washer when really all that was wrong was that a fork managed to wedge itself in the conveyer belt. I’ve even seen more than a few rookies throw their chef coats in the washer only to realize minutes later that they’d left their student ID’s in the coat’s pocket. They had to get a friend to let them into the dorm buildings that night because they couldn’t get their IDs back until the next morning.
However, Pita’s first rookie mistake was the only one to ever make it on to every popular social media site used on campus. I blame the volleyball girls, though in all honesty even though they made the firs

Rookie Mistakes 10: Flipping the Wrong Switch
Title: Flipping the Wrong Switch
Time Frame: August 2014/January 2011

“Guess what! Guess what!” my friend’s blond hair bounced around her head as she threw open the door to my dorm room. A smile had made itself at home on her face and she was practically shaking with delight. In fact, whether she realized it or not, she was lightly bouncing on the front of her feet. My hazel eyes followed her as she danced closer to where I lay on my bed.
“What’s gotten into you?” I asked, as I chewed on the end of my ink pen. An open notebook lay before me, along with a notepad full of scribbles about story ideas and character profiles.
“I just got done with my interview and James said I got the job!”
“That’s great! What position?”
“Cook assist!”
“Cool! That means you’ll be helping prepare the food.”
“I know! I’m so excited!”
“When do you start?”

Rookie Mistakes 9: The Great Change
Title: The Great Change
Time Frame: March 2015

“All great changes are preceded by chaos.”
~Deepak Chopra

Friday night, March 6, 2015 started out like most weekends for my roommate, Stacie, and I. Our minds and bodies were utterly exhausted from the week we had just finished and, though we still had a weekend of work and papers that needed to be done ahead of us, we found ourselves sitting down in front of the television. She on her black bean bag chair, me on my lime green yoga ball, both of us with our phones in our hands and only half paying attention to the comedy we had playing on one of the two TVs that sat on our make-shift entertainment center.
Being both mentally and physically exhausted, we talked about nothing while absentmindedly playing games on our phones. Everything from our current relationships to the exams we were currently studying for came up, and eventually the movie we were watching invoked a new topic of conversation.
I, being bored, had

His Reason to Call
It’d been nearly four months since Tim had found Jason. Four long, agonizing months of uneasiness and guilt. Dick had tried to call Jason several times in that first month but his old phone number didn’t work and Tim was refusing to give him Jason’s current one.
“If he wants to talk to you then he will,” Tim had stated. “I’m sure he still has your number. You chased him away. Now you have to wait for him to come back.”
“If he comes back,” Damian had muttered, to which Dick had given a glare. “Tt. Don’t look at me like that, Grayson. This is your own fault. You’ve even admitted as much.”
The youngest Wayne was right. It was Dick’s fault. More so then Damian even knew, for Dick had omitted a key piece of information when retailing the ev

“Hiyah! Huh, huh, he, Ya!” Damian called out as he delivered a series of attacks on the assassin that’d been foolish enough to try removing Robin’s head.
Nightwing heard a sickening crack and whipped his head around to check on the youngest bird, jabbing the end of one of his escrima sticks into his own assassin. The black and blue weapon crackled as a jolt of electricity was shot into the assassin’s gut. The assassin barely managed a choked groan before his body fell to the dirty ground of the old bunker.
Nightwing twisted, stepping over the twitching body to get closer to his partner. Damian was holding his own and the sickening crack he’d heard had apparently been made when the boy delivered a hard punch to the now unconscious assassin laying at his boot clad feet, but he still didn’t feel comfortable being too far away from the litt

The Heist
“I thought you said you had all the guns?” the shorter, fair-haired male gazed around the mostly empty arsenal. His voice was tight, his shoulders squared, and his clothes completely black. He’d swiped a black beanie from his sister’s closet for the night, in an attempt to become one with the shadows along the city streets. He ended up looking less like a thief in the night and more like a beat poet on his way to the nearest java house. He used the pointer finger of his left hand to push up the silver framed glasses on his face, his right hand was scratching at the hair around his right ear.
“No, I said I had all of your favorite guns,” the shaggy, copper haired boy rolled his eyes at his friend’s incompetence. He, unlike his companion, was at ease in his all black attire. The steel-toed boots he wore had scuff marks and his jeans were ripped. Beneath the well-kept, black leather jacket he wore, was a tank top sporting the brand of his favorite

The Weight of A Prophecy 18: The Plan
The academy dining hall was overfull with life as Jai Mi and Scythe entered the building. Every table had students at it and some of the floor space was occupied by them as well. Most days the dining hall’s three hour dinner period was long enough that not all of the students would eat at once. Yet, with the time for final exams drawing near, everyone was spending as much time away from their dorm desks and classrooms as possible. Which resulted in the dining hall having to make use of their outdoor seating.  Jai Mi was just glad that the weather hadn’t turned sour yet. It may have been harder for him and Scythe to get cold, due to their different parentages, but that didn’t mean he wanted to eat his meal outside with the wind whipping at his face or the sky leaking tears.
“Mmmm,” Jai Mi hummed as he caught the scent of Cajun from where he and his roommate stood in the dinner line. “This is going to be good.”
Scythe, who hadn’t said

Screech: 9 I am Poison
Note: There is some strong language in here, but it's relatively minor so I'm not putting a warning on it. Consider this to be a fair warning instead.
The cold December rain that Larkin had arrived to in Gotham was slowly freezing over. The sky spit ice at her as she shuffled her way down the cracked street her apartment building sat on. The carcass of the old store that sat across from the building looked even more ominous then usual with ice collecting on what little was left of its sign. The cerulean eyed girl tried to fold into herself to maintain what little warmth her jacket was providing her. She had no winter weather wear. No hat, scarves, or gloves to help keep her warm. All she had was her old leather jacket, which was running thin in a few places and whose lining had given out the Christmas before last. She hadn’t been able to part with the jacket, however, because she’d found it in the box of her father’s things that the Kents had kept.
It was a wom

Churchless: The Musings of a Pastor's Kid
I don’t like being without a church. It makes me feel uneasy and uncertain. I haven’t ever been without a church before. Even when I was at the university I still had chapel at College Church. It’s weird not having a place to go worship. A place to bask in the glory of God.
My parents decided to try out the Farnam Nazarene church, today. I didn’t go with them because I do not wish to go to a church that’s attended by a person who has been a toxin in my life. I need to be able to feel safe at the church I’m a part of. I shouldn’t have to have my guard up when I walk into the house of God.
I was going to go to a non-denominational church with my sister, but she ended up having to work. So, I settled on catching the tail end of the sermon my Uncle was live streaming on Facebook. The sermon was great, but I missed sitting in a pew. I missed hearing worship music and being able to look at a cross as I pondered the words of the spirit. I missed the c

Interests
So, I did a thing...

...I self-published a story on Amazon!

I know it's not the traditional way of going about publishing but I've thought long and hard on making this decision and I've decided that this can no more hurt my writing career than just posting my works here on DeviantArt.

The story I've chosen to publish is a fiction-crime set in Georgia. It was once posted here but I completely re-edited it (although I did catch one spelling mistake when I read it after publishing *face meet palm*) and deleted it from this site. The main character is an elderly southern belle who has been carrying a secret around with her since the summer of 1956. Said secret becomes a burden after her best friend dies and a young man shows up on her doorstep asking how his grandpa had really disappeared.

The story is titled The Summer of 1956 and you can find it here if you'd like to purchase it. You don't have to, obviously, but I felt compared to share the link on here since the DeviantArt community and all of my watchers are part of the reason I even continue writing.
